Who is Daily Polish?

My name is Sara, I am a California ex-pat living in London, England. I am in my mid-twenties and I am a qualified librarian working in the corporate sector [thankfully my conservative work environments allow me to be as crazy as I choose with nail polish colours and styles!]. I have loved nail polish for as long as I can remember, I got my first ‘professional’ manicure as a 12th birthday present from my mother and it was done in OPI’s ‘Chicago Champagne Toast’ (yes, I still remember the exact shade!!!!). Even before then I was doing my own nails or my mum or sisters would do them for me…but after that first ‘real’ manicure I was hooked!

In my late teens/early twenties I developed a nail biting habit and I could not break it! I was at a loss, I had stopped getting manicures and stopped doing my own nails because I was an avid rock climber and the sport does not lend itself to pretty fingers! I used pink & white acrylics for about a year and while I really liked the experience I missed being able to put colours on my nails  and it just did not suit my athletic habits! I will say that once I removed my acrylics I resumed nail biting and that was when I started constantly having my nails polished. I also quit rock climbing (for a variety of reasons) and really delved head first into the nail world.

I started reading nail blogs in 2006 and started building up a polish collection at the end of 2007. Reading these blogs taught me so much about types of nail polish, the variety of brands and finishes and how it can be used as a form of personal expression. My nails are part of my every day fashion statement!

I have been a journal writer since I was a young child and when I was in my early teens I transitioned into the world of blogging. These were always personal journals about my everyday life and it wasn’t until the end of 2008 I decided to write a public blog about nail polish.

I came to this decision because I was in the middle of a long period of unemployment and I was home all day, every day reading blogs and puttering about my flat. I started to crave a nail blog that was updated every single day (no matter what!) and there did not seem to be a blog to fill that gap…so I created my own!

I never expected anyone to read it and the fact that people read and comment still makes me incredibly giddy with excitement! I feel that my blog is different from others (and not just because I write a post every day) mainly because I don’t consider myself to be an expert in any way when it comes to nail polish. I’m just a big fan who wants to share her love of nail polish with others. There are a lot of nail bloggers I look up to, I do not even consider myself to be on their level (in a nice “we’re not worthy!” kind of fashion)! I’m just another lacquerhead like you!

Living in the UK helps and hinders my polish addiction. There are many US brands we do not get and I have to enlist my friends to help me import them…but at the same time there are a lot of European brands I have access to that I would not be exposed to if I did not live in England!

If that wasn’t enough information for you…send me an email and I will happily write lots of nonsense about myself until you beg me to stop! J
