Accessory Wednesday: Age of Reason Scarves

Now. Ordinarily I’d talk about something beauty related because I genuinely have a lot to post….like this great facial I had at a place just by my house or comparing liquid lipsticks but I genuinely don’t feel like talking about beauty today so instead I’m going to talk about my favourite scarf company and join the other bloggers talking about accessory Wednesday! Mostly because I really really want a scarf from this brand and I just can’t afford it and it’s frustrating!! So I thought…why have a blog if you can’t share your wants with everyone else?!

Age of Reason are 100% silk scarves with designs drawn by Ali Mapletoft who then transfers everything to a watercolour design before the designs are silkscreened one by one onto each scarf. Then they are hand finished by a single seamstress (see why I love them!? One person designs them, one person silkscreens them, one person finishes them…all here in the UK. Rather rare these days!). I will say that Ali is amazing at running her brand, her attention to detail in her scarf creations to her interactions with her customers (I will say that one time there was a delay for my scarf and as an apology she wrote me a personalised card and tucked in a very posh bar of chocolate [not to mention keeping me constantly in the loop of why there was a delay, how the progress was going [the silk-screening machine had broken down!]). It is honestly one of the best things about smaller brands, when brands are small and successful they have the ability to interact and get to know you on a basis impossible with larger companies. It’s incredibly difficult to maintain that personal connection when brands “hit the big time” but I have a feeling this brand will make that leap (or do its best!).

god save the queen scarves

Recently Age of Reason started to do pocket squares to match some of their scarves, if my step-dad was a suit wearing man (since my guy is a mature uni student he isn’t really in suit wearing mode) you bet I’d buy him one (I’ve already gifted my mum a scarf). Plus this scarf is just adorable, the anarchy pug!? What’s not to love!!!

victory pirate queen scarf

I ever so briefly had this lovely lady in my possession until I forgot she was tied around my neck and went on a motorcycle ride from Birmingham home to London and the force of wind dislodged the knot and she flew away with the wind. Less than 72 hours into my ownership (and I waited a good two months for this scarf). Talk about wanting to shed tears! I just think she and I weren’t meant to be, much as I love the design, the human heart in one corner and the ship on her head…that’s a costume I’d wear for Halloween! This season she is out in all different colours but I’m a sucker for the original orange/red.

naughty pocket squares

Truthfully I can’t remember how I came about Age of Reason scarves but I was immediately drawn to their more… boudoir scarves for their scandalous quality (I get a kick out of shocking people!) and spent most of my days there before I ever ventured over to their “main” scarves section”! I left them as pocket squares just out of grace and decency, feel free to go exploring yourself if you dare ;) !

kitty russian doll scarf

Now for the crown jewel in my Age of Reason collection, Kitty the Matyroshka doll. I’ve been obsessed with nesting dolls since I was a child and I adore the twist that Ali uses in her collection. I dabble at the thought of someday getting multiple tattoos of all the dolls she’s created (sorry Mum!), but I’m happy with just collecting pictures of them for now and contemplating more!

Age of Reason (and their list of stockists) are available from their website: http://www.age-of-reason-studios.com/
